WHAT IS CRIME STOPPERS?
Local citizen volunteers who want to improve out community by
helping law enforcement take criminals off out streets and recover
stolen property. We do this by offering rewards of up to $1,000 for
crime information.
HISTORY OF CRIME STOPPERS:
Crime Stoppers of Marion County, Inc. was established on May 10,
2000, and us a member of the Florida Association of Crime Stoppers.
The local organization came through a cooperative effort by the
Ocala/Marion County Chamber of Commerce, Marion County
Commission , and local law enforcement.
The Crime Stopper concept was begun in New Mexico in 1976 as a
tool for offering a reward for information on an unsolved murder case.
There are now over 2,000 programs worldwide.
CRIME STOPPERS FAQ:
WHO RUNS CRIME STOPPERS?
Local civilian volunteers make up the Board of Directors.
A new Board of Directors is elected each September. Crime Stoppers
is a private Florida corporation and is not part of any government
entity.
IS LAW ENFORCEMENT INVOLVED?
The organization is civilian based but does enjoy the support of
the Sheriff's Office, Ocala Police, Belleview Police and Dunnellon
Police.
HOW DOES IS WORK?
Just call our unrecorded line and give us information on the location
of a wanted person, someone who is responsible for a specific crime,
a crime that is about to take place or the location of stolen property.
If an arrest is made or if the property is recovered the Board can
award you up to $1,000.
DO I HAVE TO GIVE MY NAME?
NO! We do not want your name or address, only your
information.
Callers who are awarded money will be told how to pick up their
award without disclosing their identity to anyone.
WHY NOT JUST CALL THE POLICE?
You may if you wish. However, some people are reluctant to talk with
Law Enforcement. We do not who you are and we do not record your
statements. We only want your information.

WILL I HAVE TO TESTIFY IN COURT?
No. Crime Stoppers pays for your information only. We will not know
your identity and neither will anyone else.
